This extensive site has material on all aspects of American folklore, myths, legends, heroes and villains.
It covers Native American, Canadian and Mexican folklore, and tall tales concerning everything from Paul Bunyan
and Pecos Bill to Brer Rabbit and Bigfoot Wallace. The site is maintained by S. E. Schlosser, whose Spooky
series of books it also promotes.

ANCIENT EGYPT: THE MYTHOLOGY
This site “is dedicated to providing the most detailed and accurate information about the gods, goddesses and
religious beliefs of the ancient Egyptian people.” It is divided into sections dealing with the gods, myths,
symbols and land and also has a collection of links to other sites dealing with the subject. Each section has
a clear index from which individual articles can be accessed.

CASEBOOK: JACK THE RIPPER
Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who terrorised the East End of London in the autumn of 1888.
He has never been conclusively identified, and scores of myths and legends have grown up around his name.
This site presents
all the known facts through police reports and official documents, together with all the theories
arising from the case and much more. There is enough material here to keep even
the most fanatical Ripperologist happy for weeks.

CORNISH MYTHS AND LEGENDS
Cornwall has been described as the most haunted place in the British Isles, and if you are interested in its folklore,
then this site is a good place to begin. It is divided into sections dealing with Ghost Stories, Legends,
Mermaids, Folklore and Stones, and each section presents the various stories in a clear and succinct way.

ENCYCLOPEDIA MYTHICA
This encyclopedia of mythology, folklore, and religion is divided into six geographical regions: Africa,
Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Oceania. The Folklore section contains general folklore, Arthurian legends,
Greek heroic legend, and folktales from many lands. In addition, there are special interest areas, including a
Bestiary, legendary heroes, an image gallery, and genealogical tables of various pantheons and prominent houses.

This extensive site is an archive of freely available electronic texts about religion, mythology,
legends and folklore, occult and esoteric topics. It includes texts from ancient times up to the
present and covers all countries and belief systems. It has no particular religious slant, and the
number of texts on the site is enormous.

This site “is a resource and community dedicated to mysterious places, legends and folklore within the British and
Irish Isles.” It delves into all manner of mysteries, legends and paranormal events associated with Britain from
ancient legends to more recent occurrences. There is a Gazetteer with Google maps showing the location of mysteries,

Organised in alphabetical order the articles on this site concern myths and legends from all cultures and parts of
the world, from Adam and Eve and Billy the Kid through Cuchulain and Moloch to Stonehenge and Zeus. There are
some illustrations, and plenty of links to related articles elsewhere on the site.

MYTHICAL CREATURES AND BEASTS
This is a constantly evolving, user-generated site dealing with all kinds of mythical creatures from many
different cultures around the world. There are extensive lists of mythical and fictional creatures,
with descriptions and a variety of illustrations and some videos to accompany them. As with other user-generated
sites the quality of the material varies, but on the whole there is much to interest and entertain.

MYTHICAL REALM
Lady Gryphon’s Mythical Realm is crammed with information and pictures about a whole range of mythical
creatures, races and legends, from Gryphons and Werewolves to Beowulf and King Arthur. The amount of
information varies from one subject to another, but there is plenty to interest anyone looking for colourful
material on mythology from around the world.

MYTHS AND LEGENDS INDEX
Part of an American site, Britannia Home, this claims to be "The internet's most comprehensive treatment of the Times,
Places, Events and People of British History." The British
Myths and Legends section has links to information on everything from Barrel Rolling (Ottery St. Mary) and The Holy Grail to Queen
Emma's Ordeal by Fire and Herne the Hunter. Some of the links to other sites do not work, but there is still plenty of
worthwhile material available.

Part of the Windows to the Universe site, this deals with objects in the sky and other natural phenomena
which have inspired people throughout the ages. You can browse the collection of myths, folk tales and stories,
as well as related artwork, poetry, books, and movies that portray the natural world.

THE THAIN’S BOOK
This is an encyclopedia of the people, places, creatures, things, and events in The Hobbit,
The Lord of the Rings and other writings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Entries include descriptions, histories,
dates, genealogies, etymologies, illustrations, sources and cross-references. There are subject
indexes for People, Places, Creatures, Things and Events, and an alphabetical index and search
tool. The information is very detailed and includes paintings and stills from the films.

TIMELESS MYTHS
This site is divided between Classical, Norse and Celtic Mythology and Arthurian Legends.
There is a lot of information, although the
actual writing is generally rather simplistic, with a lot of very short sentences, and the navigation can become
irritating, with several links before you actually reach the information you are after. However, the
content of the site is varied enough to overcome these niggles, and it is worth a visit if you are interested in the
mythologies with which it deals.

THE TOM SLEMEN WEBSITE
This site contains an extensive collection of tales about supernatural creatures and weird events around the
British Isles and other parts of the world. It deals with everything from the vampire said to haunt the Highgate
cemetery to myths surrounding the assassination of John Lennon. The tales are told succinctly, and the factual
elements on which they might be based are presented in a reasonably objective way.

TRUE GHOST TALES
This site is “dedicated to building the largest collection of ghost stories and paranormal articles on the net”.
There are factual articles, stories and pictures related to ghosts, werewolves, vampires, demons, aliens, elves
and fairies. The site is constantly expanding with new material submitted by a wide variety of different people,
though some of the stories need to be approached with a degree of scepticism.

This is a huge site covering a whole range of myths, legends and mysteries in considerable detail. It is divided
into categories: Ancient Mysteries, Cryptozoology, UFO and Aliens, Ghosts, Metaphysics and Psychics, Urban Legends
and Bizarre World. You can find material about anything from Atlantis and Stonehenge, through Werewolves and Lizard
Men to the Bermuda Triangle and Crystal Skulls.

Described as "The definitive Internet reference source for urban legends, folklore, myths, rumors, and misinformation",
this American site is the place to visit if you want to know about urban legends concerning anything from autos and computers to
politics and weddings. It contains a huge variety of stories, though you need to be selective, as some of them can be rather
distasteful. The site also categorises the stories as true, false, ambiguous or of indeterminate origin.

This site contains a wealth of detailed and well-researched information about all aspects of Norse Mythology. Articles about the creation, locations, gods,
humans, elves, dwarves, giants, animals and objects are all presented in a clear and helpful way with many illustrations, and navigation round the site is very straightforward,
providing an excellent resource for anyone interested in the subject.
